Native To: Europe, the Mediterranean, and Southern and Central Asia
Basic History: Oregano literally means “joy of the mountain” in Greek. Oregano is a hearty perennial with fuzzy leaves and a square stem. As a healing herb, oregano was used to help chronic coughs and asthma.
Culinary Uses: Oregano is a close relative to marjoram, but with a stronger, more peppery flavor, and is used in the same cuisines.
