Life in our new home ……

Life in our new home here in the Gowanus area of Park Slope, is pretty sweet, especially now that we have some cold air blowing for the summer! The large open space s not only conducive to open communication and allowing us to know what’s going on all around us, but the openness gives us some breathing room as life in the perishable produce world can be a chaotic and stressful. We have most out meetings at the big conference tables by the windows as well as lunch often times and it’s a nice place to come together.

Because we have access to the great kitchen, healthy organic meals are a staple for breakfast and lunch and even cool summer time snacks are served.  Typically “Nissa” is at the helm of lunch making great meals for all, one of the latest meals was this Asian Noodle dish salad, with glass noodles, carrots, bok choy, ginger, scallions, lemongrass, cilantro, thai basil with a very spicy peanut lime sauce!  Tina is the queen of making us cool refreshing and tart lemon & lime –ade!  And of course we have our own in house barista-Renato, typically serving us up coffee multiple times a day! Everyone else pulls their weight in helping with preparing the meals or the dreaded clean-up!

Along with the great open setting we have access to Sadie here; she lifts our moods and gives us plenty to talk about.  She is also the official greeter so anytime visitors come, she is the first to greet them, either donkey or surfer doll in mouth.  She has a couple of “spots” in the office.  Most of the time she is cozy in the sales department, nestled behind Nir and Yana, she likes it there, still in the midst of the action but sheltered a bit as well.  Sometimes she is seen in her bed by Nissa and in the morning times she is always catching some rays in the sun spots on the east.  Of course anytime someone is in the kitchen she is right outside, hoping they are in their making her grub!

Another perk of the space is that we have access to all the classes and action going on in the culinary & herb center.   So whether its early in the afternoon and prep for the classes is being done and we get to sample the wares, or if we just ironically time our day ending to the exact start of a class in which we attend, there is always something special to eat and enjoy.  The chef classes are amongst the favorite of the staff here at Ger-Nis, often at 6 pm on a weeknight, we often have a few people working late just so they can attend the classes.  And let’s not forget that having the kids around is great fun too.  For those working the Saturday shift, the kid’s classes are a riot to witness!

All in all we are so happy without new space, the energy and the excitement never end and we look forward to a long prosperous journey in our new home!!  Come on in for a visit, a class, cold lemonade or a great Nissa lunch!
