Israeli Organic Pepper & Tomato Season Has Arrived

Israeli organic pepper and tomato season has arrived, and not a moment too soon. This year we suffered from a very problematic and early end to our Dutch season when it was halted by a USDA ban on all species of plants falling under the capsicum category, which includes bell peppers, of course.

The USDA put the ban on peppers because of an insect found in a shipment of conventional habañero peppers; the insect found was a native of Africa, not Holland. The USDA placed the ban on the peppers in order to find out more about the insect. A few weeks later the organic Holland pepper season ended. We were left with very few organic peppers in the months of September and October, so we are incredibly excited to get back to work and even more excited about organic Israeli pepper season!

Thanks to incredible weather this year, the crops look fabulous and our start dates are anticipated to begin a few weeks sooner than normal. Typically, the Israeli season comes just before Thanksgiving leaving us barely enough time to supply high Thanksgiving demands. This season’s early start will give us an edge.

The quality of this year’s organic peppers is also exceptional. Here’s a firsthand look at what’s going on in the fields.

  • Yellow, red and orange peppers are available
  • Quality, sizing and shape are consistent
  • Seasonal programs are still available
  • Peppers are air freighted for optimal shelf life
  • Peppers are PLU stickered and packaged

The organic tomatoes are also coming along nicely this season. We’re looking forward to larger sizes and new varieties that are deep red and superbly juicy! Have a look………….
