Winter Edition

When autumn abruptly leaves us after a rather short and cool courting, it brings us to the threshold of cold and dark winter. This change is especially noticeable in our cravings. The shift from hot to cold happens quickly and we begin to crave that which makes it easier to cope with the cold and dark; comfort! In winter, we are naturally drawn to cozy pajamas, warm and toasty fireplaces, cashmere and wool sweaters, and deeper, richer comfort meals. Nature plays its part by providing us with dense, rich foods all winter long, thus satisfying our cravings with the bounty it provides naturally. As more ingredients become available to us in winter, food becomes healthier and the deepness and richness we crave doesn’t have to be fattening nor does it have to be the kind of winter food that weighs us down. Our winter meals must both satisfy the need to keep us cozy while remaining healthy and viable for our active winter lifestyles. Herbs are a gentle reminder of how simple it is to keep food healthy. By adding them to our favorite winter comfort foods we can use less fatty and calorie heavy items and still receive plenty of the richness and flavor that equals comfort! In this issue, we’ll help you make deep, rich winter foods that are deceivingly light and extremely healthy!
Keep warm and stay active; hibernation is for bears!
