Who is the Grower?
Kfir Levi-Moshav Nama, Israel
Kfir Levi is one of the top growers in Israel. Moshav Nama is nestled in the Jordan Valley east of Jerusalem, north of the Dead Sea, and near the city of Jericho. At Moshav Nama he currently grows fresh herbs and dates. Kfir farms approximately 80 dunams, or 20 acres, of land. His specialties include basil, rosemary, tarragon, and thyme (both organic and conventional). The herbs are grown in agro technology greenhouses which incorporate different types of material depending on sun requirements, insect susceptibility, and overall control of the growth conditions. Some of these materials include; Bio-Net, Opti-Net, Spider-Net, and Mesh 50. Well-developed irrigation and fertilizer systems run throughout the farms feeding and watering the herbs and dates.
Kfir has been successfully growing herbs in Israel for the past 12 years. The climate in Israel allows herbs to be grown year-round. Kfir switches his fields seasonally depending on the needs of the market and weather limitations. For example, during the winter he focuses on tarragon because weather conditions permit the successful development of excellent quality tarragon. Also, the market demand, especially in Europe and the USA, coincide with the winter season and thus make tarragon a very practical product for his Moshav. Currently, Kfir is focused on increasing his output of organic herbs.
